The Superbowl, one of the most sacred and important dates in the American calendar. Unlike other sports, the Superbowl is a whole spectacle and can last up to 4 hours. During the game, viewers indulge in drinks, desserts and a damn lot of food but how much do viewers really eat?

If you’re wondering what the Superbowl is, simply put it is an American Football (NFL) final between the playoff winners of two conferences. It’s not only fans of the competing teams who watch the Superbowl, the match roughly attracts 100 million American viewers each year, plus another 50 million worldwide.

On Superbowl Sunday, American viewers eat more food than on Thanksgiving. That is saying something. Chickens fear Superbowl Sunday the most as almost 1.3 billion of their relatives are consumed, with Americans eating 327% more wings during the Superbowl than on other day. What the Cluck!

In addition to this, Pizza places are at their busiest on Superbowl Sunday, with Domino’s selling upwards of 12 million slices on the day. 28 million pounds of potato chips are also consumed as well as 53.5 million pounds of guacamole.

Americans also drink almost 325 million gallons of beer on Superbowl Sunday and nearly 7 million call in sick the next day at work.

With all this drinking and eating is it any wonder that American toilets are flushed around 90 million times on Superbowl Sunday alone. Not to mention the countless sheets of Andrex or Cushelle used too.

Americans and their love for food is anything but surprising. However a day full of sport, snacks and sofa time. Is there anything better?
